Passivation and chrome-coating

Brief technical description:

  • As a result of legal stipulations (EU used car ordinance, RoHS directive), chrome coatings that contain carcinogenic Cr(VI) compounds may not be used in the automotive industry since 1 July 2007. These chrome-coating processes can, for example, be replaced by so-called passivations based on compounds containing Cr(III). Passivation is frequently improved by adding an appropriate seal (top coat). The components, e.g. Zn- or Zn/Ni-coated steel components, are given a protective coating containing Cr(III), using a non-electrical process. This results in an inorganic passivation coating with nanometre thickness Precipitation takes place from a Cr(VI)-free solution.

Are you looking for a high-quality passivation process for your galvanised steel components?

  • We offer you Zn nanocor, a total solution in a single step: excellent corrosion resistance, no Cr(VI), with a self-healing effect and without any sealing being required. Zn/Ni transcor offers you a transparent solution for Zn/Ni-coated components. For aluminium and magnesium, we also offer processes tailored to the processing of light metals. Contact us.

Advantages (Cr(VI)-free passivation):

  • Increased corrosion protection
  • Improves adhesion during subsequent coating processes, such as varnishing, even without heat storage.

Fields of application:

  • Automotive and supplier industry
  • Building machinery
  • Consumer (household appliances, designer and luxury items)
  • Electrical appliances
  • Electronics
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Optics
  • Solar technology
  • Packaging industry
