Thanks to the enhancement of colouring techniques for eloxal coatings and the specialising of the process to suit individual colour schemes, the Holzapfel Group is meanwhile capable of reproducing a wide range of colours in eloxal surfaces. This ability is a particular benefit wherever reproducible colours, optics and haptics are of key importance, such as with multi-piece visible components that are installed together, high-quality consumer goods or vehicle interiors.

In a major project for the consumer goods industry, the Holzapfel Group especially adapted Eloxal Individual to suit components responsible for design, form and function. When anodising aluminium, the company paid particular attention to the physical and chemical characteristics of the colouring process. Using a special system, the percentage of colouring agent was kept within defined tolerance limits directly depending on consumption.} Thus the colour is not produced by means of an inefficient excess of colouring agent, as is generally the case. Moreover, the approach ensures a particularly even selection of colours. So when it comes to colour, you have a really broad range of options for eloxal surfaces. In addition to defined levels of gloss, practically any colour can be reproduced, even unsaturated colours or mixtures, such as combinations of red and blue.

Subtle shades of colour such as those the Holzapfel Group is now capable of producing are only possible due to very precise process parameters used in the entire production process, particularly concerning the dosage of colouring agent. In the past it was only possible to achieve identical colouring through the subsequent testing and rejecting of components with colour defects. However, the optimised Eloxal Individual technology now guarantees the reproducibility of selected colours.

In order to optimally satisfy specific design and quality guidelines, the Holzapfel Group has additionally developed a special colour quality testing system. The visual alignment is ideally adapted to the difficult, strongly structured eloxal surface. The process ensures the production of workpieces that are flawless with regard to both colour and levels of gloss. Holzapfel is currently working on ways of carrying out this quality testing using cameras, with particular regard to the adjusted levels of gloss and the great variety of colour spectra.
